Tim Lavoy
Board of Education
Tim Lavoy is excited to be a candidate for re-election to the Portland Board of Education. Tim has served proudly on the BOE for 6 years, helping to assure Portland reflects the best in public education systems and learning opportunities. Tim and his wife Sandie have lived in Portland for 17 years. They have two sons, Raymond, a 2017 PHS graduate and Nathan a PHS 2020 graduate.
Tim is a member of the First Congregational Church, serving on the Mission Board, the Portland Exchange Club, in Scouting and coaching in Portland recreational sports. He has been and member and volunteer in the Portland School Sideliners, Sports Booster group and the Portland Schools Music Boosters, volunteering for numerous in and out of state field trips and activities.
He is presently a member of the Portland Brownfields Redevelopment Focus Group. Professionally, Tim had 36-year career managing human service programs in Connecticut serving adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Educationally, Tim has a BA from CCSU in Political Science\Public Administration with a minor in Business. Tim shared that, “The experience I’ve gained with my 6 years on the BOE has made me well informed and effective. I used these tools to benefit our community during the Covid 19 pandemic.
My focus is on effective use of resources to meet or exceed educational standards, continued improvement of student performance outcomes, transparency and responsibility in fiscal operations and developing policies that consistently support these goals.”
